Happy New Year!

Hello,

Happy New Year! It’s 2026! New year, new you, right? We plan to stay on the positive notes because the negative is too hard on the body and soul. Besides, it takes too much work to be negative. I read that frowning uses more facial muscles than smiling, so it would behoove us to smile more.

I just had a brief exercise workout this morning. No, I didn’t make any resolutions this year. I’ve realized that exercise is the morning helps me with my thoughts. It helped me get off my tuffet and draft this post. Speaking of writing, I’ve kept my writing habit up some. I have been revising my writing and working to start new pieces, short stories and novels. I want to work on a new novel idea that has werewolves or shape shifters, but I’m still trying to flesh ideas out in my head before I commit anything to notes or paper.

I’ve been doing some reading too. I really didn’t stop my reading kick. I have a few books started and I have finished a book or two.

I’m reading The Dead Cat Tail Assassins by P. Djèli Clark. I’ve read The Black God’s Drums and A Master of Djinn and they did not disappoint. I’m a few pages in. I’m on Chapter 3, and the story is getting twisty, which I’m enjoying. I’m looking forward to what’s next.

I’m also reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. I’ve heard that it’s the little changes that build up into big results, but it’s nicer to read about it.

Finally, I finished a book that’s part of the Save the Cat! Series of books. It’s titled Save the Cat! Writes Horror. For a shorter book, it inspired me to create loglines for some of my stories since they fall into this genre. The book is a good teaching tool for writers regardless of experience level. So, if you’re writing horror and would like some reference material on the genre, check it out.

Well, this is it for this post. This is a new year with new potential. Of course, everyday has new potential, a gift. That’s why it’s called “the present.”

Until next time, hold it in the road.

Happy New Year!
